synth mistress lakaband launches her label mekalaka with the electronic goodness of >i have to dance<. after years spent honing her craft at her base in east london surrounded by analogue gear lakaband is now ready to deliver her own unique take on electronic dance. starting things in fine style, the title track blends raw drum machine rhythms with bubbling 303, off kilter synths and understated vocals to create a paean to the call to dance. on remix duties is elusive dissident recording artist gweilo, turning in a pulsing, synthetic disco dub. rolling bassline and a tough linn drum groove underpin the chopped up fx drenched vocals. with plenty of future releases lined up there is much, much more to come from lakaband. stay tuned

nice price deal !!! the songs on yachts debut album see mystery lights from the bouncy, burbling you cant take it with you screed the afterlife (which plays like a less spastic companion piece to the mae shis run to your grave) to the roller rink ready vocoder vocals of im in love with a ripper represent yacht at their most poppy. its a collection of stone jams that finds the band finally as hellbent on experimenting and expanding the boundaries of its sonic scope as it is on having fun. built on electronic foundations laser effects, skittering computerized beats, and spacey synth lines (or guitar riffs that have been tuned or distorted to sound like synths) these new songs are giddy with creative freedom while remaining tethered in service of their melodies. the vocal melodies are bright and buoyant, but delivered (by either band member, or in unison) in a chanted, oftentimes detached monotone that plays up the repetitive lyrics mantra like feel and adds a welcome undercurrent of slacker cool to their otherwise sugary optimism.

soniculture welcomes a new artist to the family. bernard siefert, betterknown as nhar is known for his releases on labels such as mobilee, meerestief, plak and modelisme. his hypnotic sound is unique, adding at the same time fine tuned melodies and vocals, in this way, enriching the whole musical experience. with this release, nhar shows us a bit more energy, keeping the soul and exploring the feelings that characterize his productions, but making us dance even more than usual. this is an amazing piece of work from one of the most original producers of the new french techno scene. the a side begins with >derceto<, a very modern techno track but with an old school touch and an outstanding percussion arrangement. the hypnotic bassline is strong and involving and the vocals make it dirty, when needed. thinkfreak closes this side with a powerful remix, taking the energy to higher levels and making it a dance floor slammer for the craziest moments of the night (or day). with >owls are not what they seem<, nharshows us how hypnotic he can be. the track is filled with sophistication andthe production details are exquisite. this is electronic dance music at itsbest. dalessandro & expander present a version of >owls are not what theyseem< that is sexy and groovy and is for sure perfect for that special afterhour moment or simply when there is a special need for love.

the new, first time ever on vinyl 2lp reissue of a long way around to a shortcut is somehow a greatest hits of the golden not quite decade of sic alps. well, not quite golden, either. can gold be tarnished? can it be done on purpose? if so, sic alps are artisans of the highest order - for their music is the bright, surging sound of ye olde rock & roll radio (and the garages that tuned in) heard through air darkened with specks of nameless obstruction. in and amongst their ingrown sounds, sic alps take on classic tunes from strapping field hands, throbbing gristle and the zipps on a long way around to a shortcut. it is to their credit that they completely absorb their estimated predecessors and create the only sound left to them: the sound of the sic alps. a long way around to a shortcut was issued as a cd in 2008. it collected songs that were first issued throughout the epic years of 2006 and 2007 on two 12inch eps, three 7inch singles and a cassette, plus a song from a compilation cd r and a song exclusive to this compilation. the records were originally given titles like united, strawberry guillotine, semi streets, hip hop sweepers vol 1, teenage alps, and the soft tour in rough form, but all these original releases are long gone.

the debut 12inch from finnish duo hannulelauri! first up is glittering night, conjuring visions of 8 bit videogame soundtracks applied to the dancefloor, or an alternative theme to the movie robocop (which lauri seems to have a strong affinity for), with shimmering electric synth chords washing over a commodore 64 groove before a peter hook soundalike drops a lovely bassline, making new order comparisons inevitable (a good thing!). perfect late night machine funk. next is sally 2000, a more introspective piece with insistent digital strings providing the foundation for a childlike toy chime melody, pulsating bass and more as layer upon layer builds to a fuzzed out, pixelated yet beatless climax. finally, the late night vibe continues as sally 2000 gets a version from finlands techno/house master jori hulkkonen who works the tracks pleading strings into a more dancefloor friendly mix, adding perfectly tuned drums and a nice, fat kick but keeping the synth melodies intact and the tempo slower than your normal electrohouse jam. adventurous djs looking for alternative moods need look no further! another strong flexx release.

get digital is off to a blazing start after the release of the mini hit >kaskazi< from simon baker and jamie jones and the well received travelling the world ep from the fresh and talented mac neumann. now we are proud to invite the veteran thomas schumacher who has produced with elektrochemie & dj t. and recorded for legendary labels such as bush, gigolo, get physical and his own spielzeug schallplatten. schumacher is a true producers producer and we are sure these two distinctive orchestrations are sure to love up the dance every time. >hot< is something that would come to mind if one heard the word >picanha<, in passing. and without a doubt the main track >picanha< is hotter than a stolen jalapeño in july. precisely layered percussion, meticulously situated effects and drums tuned with minutiae detail are the backbone of this track, but the groove comes courtesy of the schumacher brass orchestra.

on the a-side we find the original version which sounds like a classic italo disco tune in the 2008 tuned version. a tribute to the melodic italo dance songs of the 80ies. passarani s mix goes where the italo tradition meets the chicago house school such as the hotmix 5 crew and he spiced that up with sharp production and powerfull jacking beats to make this a anthem for the summer of 2008! this track created a big, big stir at the panoramabar when it got played there recently... check!

koyla, mastermind of russian composer and producer nickolai serbryakov, rips into the electronic scene with his slickly produced acid jazz style sound. the 25 year old producer from st. petersburg drops his first single on bombay&#146,s subdivision manali records &#147,bowel&#148,, a solid deep soulful disco groove. the b side is an in house mix that brings us into a late night bumping funky direction with ambient tripped out textures and hard detroit style chords. koyla and dj primat are true musicians and deserve the fullest respect in this genre, stay tuned for these boys with singles and albums to follow.
